Rancilio Silvia with PID

This is a used Rancilio Silvia that has been kept in excellent condition.


*Construction:* This machine is a tank; its case is stainless steel and its boiler and group head are both solid brass (the use of brass helps the machine maintain a steady temperature). The portafilter included with this machine is commercial grade: 58mm stainless steel.

*Usage:* I use this machine 2-3 times per week and regularly make 2 drinks back-to-back (this is to say that this machine can easily handle the load of 2-3 drinks in a row).

*Upkeep:* I clean this machine religiously after each use and regularly backflush and descale the machine according to Rancilio's suggestions. Furthermore, I ONLY used filtered water with this machine. All parts on this machine are working like new. The group head gasket started to wear down (which is expected) so I recently replaced this piece so that the seal between the portafilter and the group head is as tight as day 1.

*Extras:* - This machine comes equipped with a PID system. Installing this on your own will likely run you over $100 but it is well worth the money. The PID system not only gives you the exact boiler temp but it also lets you set the brew temperature to +- 1 degree Fahrenheit. The PID is invaluable when making multiple drinks in a row since you'll want to make sure that the boiler temp has stabilized before pulling shots. Without a PID you'd need to use a technique called "temperature surfing" to arrive at a somewhat-consistent brew temperature.
